What is GitHub (brief)
Connect R and GitHub so you can participate in STA199 (IMPORTANT)
–- Introduce lab assignment (5-10 minutes, longer today)
–- Work on the lab assignment (you can find it on the course website). You will work with others but your submission must be your own for the first several labs.
–- Lab may end with important announcements
–- If you don’t finish labs in-class they will typically be due on Wednesday at 11:59 pm.
– Lab 0 is not graded or turned in
– See R-code for the first time
– Hook up R to GitHub
– R is a statistical programming language
– RStudio is a convenient interface for R
– This is what we will use to create visualizations and analyze data throughout the semester

– Let’s explore the R container here
– GitHub is a version control software that keeps track of changes to a document
– lets you and others work together on projects from anywhere
– useful real-world tool outside of academia
Why is this so important?
– We will distribute in-class activities, homework, labs, and exams using GitHub
– You can not participate in the course unless you can access these assessments on GitHub
– You must complete lab-0 to be able to do so! So, let’s get into it!

– click the download button (see below)
– open the qmd file in R
– click on the icon under the labs column for lab instructions
No programming experience is required or expected to take this class. Come to lecture, lab and office hours. It’s okay to be confused. Stick with it, you will get the hang of it!
You will be unable to participate in STA199 unless you fill out the Getting to know you survey on Sakai. You can find this here
